This little campground on a lake is a favorite of locals and visitors alike.   Plus, many RV travelers stop here on their way along I80.  We have stayed here twice in our travel trailer with the kids.

You can see our list of top things to do in North Platte here.

It’s worth noting that the campground changed ownership a few years prior to our first stay.  According to online reviews and the locals, the new owners improved things. Here is our honest review of the I80 Lakeside Campground in North Platte.

About I80 Lakeside Campground

The campground is located just north of I80 on a small private L shaped lake.  (The lake was likely created from a borrow pit during the construction of the highway).  The address is 3800 Hadley Drive  North Platte, NE 69101

As you enter the campground you check-in at the little general store.  You pay for your campsite as well as buy supplies and rent equipment here.

The campground features 89 sites for both tent and RVs.  The grassy sites are large and spacious.  Many are pull-thru, with full water, sewer, and electric.  Primitive tent sites available as well.

Campers can take advantage of the shower house, laundry, dump station, store, and dog run. The shower is a basic block building but is clean and warm water.

In addition, $5 Day Use Pass for non-campers will get you swimming, fishing, playing horseshoes and sand volleyball and walking the trails.

The I80 Lake

The key feature is in the name – a small lake.  You can swim, boat and fish in this little lake.

Our favorite campsite is located right between the swim beach on lake and the playground.  We love to head right out to the lake in the morning and picnic at our camper.

We took our own lifejackets and rented kayaks and paddle boat from the store.  The kids had a great time swimming and paddling.

Note: Only watercraft rented from the campground are allowed in the water.

Our second visit the older kids decided to head out fishing in the morning.  The lake is stocked with Crappie, Bass, Walleye, Perch, Catfish, and others. I peaked out the window while cooking breakfast and my oldest son had taken his chair and was sitting at the water’s edge fishing

The I80 Lakeside Campsites

We found all the campsites to be very spacious compared to many of the private campgrounds we have stayed in.   The sites bordering the lake are the best and our favorite is #3.

The highway is right on the other side of the lake so you can hear some highway noise and of course, it is more noticeable at night. The sites along the other side of the lake are a bit quieter but don’t have beachfront property

Pull through sites are located in the middle of the campground and can accommodate any size RV.

The sites are grassy and most are full sun, which can get hot in the summer sun.  A few along the side of the lake have shade under the cottonwoods.

The hookups were easy to access and no problem to connect to.

Are Pets allowed at I80 Lakeside Camppground?

Yes, pets are allowed and the campground is very pet friendly.  Although pets must be on leash there is are off leash dog run.

I have fond memories of my elderly dog enjoying herself swimming in the calm lake water.
