11 Best Pet-Friendly Campgrounds in Connecticut

Connecticut is well-known for its shorelines, rich deep woods, and amazing views. One of the best things about camping is bringing along the family pet. When I visited with the family dog, there were sadly some places that she was not welcome. This is a list of the campgrounds in CT that allow dogs and other pets.

There is wonderful pet-friendly camping in Connecticut. So don’t miss out on camping in CT with your dogs.

When you are camping with your dog, remember to be courteous to other campers.

When bringing your pets, make sure that they are properly leashed. Do your best to ensure that they don’t make too much noise as this may also bother your newfound neighbors.

Some campgrounds allow you to tether your dog or put up temporary fencing. Others campsites do not allow this.

Black Rock State Park

The campground offers excellent swimming, hiking, scenic view, and ancient legend all tucked into the scenic rolling hills of the Western Highlands. The quiet atmosphere provides a relaxing feeling coupled with the extra security as the park rangers stroll around the area.

Black Rock State Park is one of the four Connecticut State Parks that allow dogs.

Housatonic Meadows State Park

This campground features a nearby river which is great for campers. It is a local hotspot for fishermen catching trout and bass. With the campsite being under the tall pines and nearby riverbank, any would-be camper will be able to relax. You can unwind as you listen to the sound of The rustling trees.

Mystic KOA Holiday

This pet-friendly campsite offers a unique historic location among the century-old maples. It is on the site of a 250-year-old farm and reproduction colonial architecture. It is within minutes of Mystic Seasport – one of our favorite Connecticut beach towns.

Niantic I95 Exit 72 CT KOA

Located conveniently near the highway, halfway between Boston and New York in the village of NianticCT. This campground serves as a hub point for campers looking to travel further into the nearby town beaches. On the plus side, they provide free parking passes and shuttles to them.

This campground provides plenty of amenities such as their Mini Golf, Camping Kitchen, and Pavillion. Pet friendly camping here includes a dog park.

This private campground resort is a perfect place to enjoy the Cennecticut woods along the lakeshore. There is a dog park onsite for off leash play. The activites at this campground seem endless – with a lake with a private beach and boat and kayak rentals.

This campground is popular and requires you to have an advanced booking. The multitude of amenities and activities features multiple outdoor sports courts, a nearby beach, and even a safari area. This campsite is located on 41 acres of beautiful, naturally landscaped grounds, with 870 feet of frontage on Gardner Lake. The lake is spring-fed with excellent fishing for large and small-mouth bass, walleye, and trout. They also offer swimming, motor boating, sailing, canoeing, water skiing.

Salt Rock Campground State Park

This campground features a a mile of wooded riverfront along the Shetucket River in the town of Sprague. They have agreat park with a large central lawn. With shaded camping spaces and the river being a short walk away on a path through the woods, this campsite offers a relaxing atmosphere for any camper to unwind and relax.

You can enjoy hikihn with your dog along the shoreline or fishing.

Water’s Edge Family Campground

This private campground, near Mystic, features a beautiful lake as their main attraction adn welcome both dogs and cats. There is a spacious Bark Park for the dogs to run.

You can enjoy various activities relating to it like swimming, fishing, and rowboat rentals. They also have other amenities such as a recreation hall and multiple playground areas for families.

With this campground, you can choose to relax at your own pace or take part in the multitude of planned activities. Acticities include potluck suppers, children’s games, and live entertainment such as dancing and other performances.

Camping with dogs in Connecticut is so fun and memorable. You will find that campgrounds in CT that allow dogs are welcoming to both families and pets.

Luckily, some campgrounds now also accommodate pets have fewer restrictions so you and your pet can have an amazing camping experience together.
