The Great Sand Dunes is a completely unique place, where miles of sand dunes are sitting right at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Spring is the best time to visit when Medano Creek is flowing and the days (and sand) are warm. The summer brings high temperatures and scorching sand, but spring is perfect. You can camp under the stars right inside the park Pi\u00f1on Flats Campground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the most iconic locations in the entire country is Mount Rushmore. Known for the massive stone sculpture of the US presidents, Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln, this is a patriotic destination. Travel to the Black Hills of South Dakota to see this amazing sight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n You can spend a solid couple of days hiking and visiting museums to learn about the country\u2019s history. Once you are done at the actual park, you can venture off and see what else the area has to offer. This includes the Encircle Devils Tower, Custer State Park, and Badlands National Park, which are all within a few hours\u2019 drive from Mount Rushmore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Camping is not available <\/strong>inside the park, but it is available in the surrounding area<\/strong>. The main RV campground right next to the national monument is the KOA Custer\/Mount Rushmore location. This is a popular time for tourists, so make sure you get a reservation early. <\/p>\n\n\n\n If you crave natural beauty that really can\u2019t be found anywhere else in the Lower 48, Crater Lake National Park is an incredible stop. Located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, this park is at the actual site of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War.
