About Iron Mountain Hot Springs
Glenwood Springs has views of Iron Mountain, Red Mountain, the Flat Tops and Mount Sopris. So the scenery from this hot springs is nothing less than spectacular.
Although, what really sets this geothermal attraction apart from others in Colorado, is the variety of soaking (and swimming) options. Each of the 16 pools is a different mineral concentrations and temperatures (99 to 108 degrees F).
The ”reflexology” pool, with loose rock bottom, is a favorite of most visitors.

This is a nice low key family destination with a more intimate environment than your average swimming pool. In fact, I think it would make a great multi-generational gathering spot.
It’s not really the splashing – canon ball- type of family location but more soaking and relaxing environment.
Also, kids under 5 are must stay in the upper family pool. So you may be more limited in your soaking options if you bring small children.
A large family with small children might be better off at the Glenwood Hot Springs.
History of Iron Mountain Hot Springs
Glenwood Springs is known for its long history of people enjoying the healing properties of the hot springs that flow from the hillsides.
The nomadic Ute tribes once soaked in the geothermal waters when they inhabited the area
Then, Europeans explored the area and found the various hot springs.
Today Glenwood Springshas 2 developed hot springs locations (Iron Mountain Hot Springs and Glenwood Hot Springs), a couple of undeveloped hot springs and the Yampa vapor caves.
The recorded history of Iron Mountain Hot Springs begins in 1896, when Sheriff Robert Ware built the West Glenwood Health Spa.
Over the next 100 years, the location became Iron Springs Bathhouse and spa and changed hands many times. The hot springs were closed in 1996 until the new owners developed it.
The owners of Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park bought the hot springs and opened in 2015.
More About Iron Mountain Hot Springs
The water source for this springs run through a different type of rock within Iron Mountain then the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. So the sulfur content is lower and other minerals, like iron, are more abundant.
In fact, the iron content is so high that they recommend you bring a swimsuit that you don’t mind getting stained.
I know the hot water and high mineral content can ruin a good bathing suit quickly. We have been how surprised how fast the be girls’ swimsuits need to replaced after swimming in hot springs.
The facilities at Iron Mountain Hot Springs are carefully maintained and locker rooms with key-less lockers and bath products are included with admission.
You can get lunch or dinner at the Sopris Cafe. The menu has a variety of sandwiches, pizza and, salads. The cafe serves hot drinks, beer, wine and, mixed drinks. The poolside Sandbar also serves drinks year round.
Pro Tip: If you visit in the winter, you will love sitting in the hot water with steam rising and snowflakes falling. You will not love shivering your way between pools, so bring an extra towel, robe and flip flops.
Directions
Glenwood Springs is located in the valley of the confluence of the Roaring Fork River and the Colorado River with a beautiful view of Mount Sopris. The town sits west of Vail on I70 and South of Aspen on Colorado Highway 82.
Iron Mountain Hot Springs is located just off I70 at exit #116. Once you exit the highway go north and then turn left onto 6th street. The parking lot is off Devereux Road on Centennial.

Conclusion
Iron Mountain Hot Springs is a unique place to go for a soak in Glenwood Springs. Although we did not swim as a family, they allowed us to film some VR 360 degree footage of the facility before opening.
You can see in they video the snow was falling and the sky was overcast but the pools are steaming! A visit in the winter to soak in the hot springs and enjoy the view would be just magical.
As I said, Iron Mountain Hot Springs is a unique place to soak in mineral-rich hot springs in Colorado.

Ahhhh yes! I heard about this new addition. I LOVE Glenwood Springs. I am a Colorado Native and it wasn’t until just last year I visited for the first time. Now, I have a new reason to go back. I am most interested in the reflexology pool. That will be the first I’ve ever heard of anything like it. Thanks for sharing. Now I know its a perfect place to get away and relax.
We agree! Glenwood Springs is a perfect little town for all seasons. Both Charles and I have lived in Colorado all our lives and now our family is very close to Glenwood. We watched them build Iron Mountain Hot Springs and then had the chance to shoot some 360 footage. The location is really unique!

Yes, Iron Mountain Hot Springs is very different from the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. Small intimate pools right on the river and lots of nice amenities. I think you would like Iron Mountain Hot Springs better if you are this way again.
