What to Consider When Renting a Luxury RV
If it’s your first time renting a luxury RV, here are some factors I’ve put together that you must know before you take a luxury RV on the road.
How Old the RV Is
One of the things to consider when renting a luxury RV is the RV age.
Aside from the type and size of an RV, another factor affecting its rental cost is age. Basically, the older the RV is, the cheaper the rental price would be compared to newer models.
Though larger RVs typically cost more than smaller ones, you can save money if you choose an older RV model. This can make your travel experience up a notch by the vintage vibes the rig gives off and the luxury it offers on the road.
The Class of RV You Want
There are different classes of luxury RVs you can choose from. Each one of them offers different features and amenities. I suggest for you, keep in mind what features you’re looking for to determine what best fits your travel.
A Class A, for example, is the largest type of luxury RV available for rent in the market. On the other hand, Class B and Class C are smaller, more compact, can accommodate more or less than five people, and is much easier to manage.
Rental and Additional Costs
As luxury RV rental costs are higher than standard ones, you should know very well how much your budget is. Rental rates can vary depending on which platform you use to rent, the season you plan to go on a trip, the RVs available, and more.
But, don’t worry! Peer-to-peer rental companies usually offer rental specials and great deals. You can also get discounts by referrals from RV owners who list their RVs on a particular platform. Speaking of which, claim your $50 credit on your first rental in Outdoorsy here.
Aside from the base rental price, you should also be aware of the additional costs that you’ll encounter during and after your trip. These can be extra charges per mileage or generator usage per hour, insurance, cleaning fees, and more.
Your Route and Destination
As luxury RVs are usually big in size, there’s a limit to where you can go during your vacation. Some roads may be accessible for smaller types of vehicles, but it may not be advisable if you’re towing or driving a 40-foot long motorhome.
If you’re planning to explore Colorado soon, check our blog about the dangerous roads you should avoid and which RV-friendly you should take instead.
After having your trip itinerary fully planned, all that’s left is the search for RV parks or campsites. Some campgrounds are bare-bone and offer a place for parking only, while there are also luxury campsites with resort-like amenities.
What Should You Look for in a Luxury RV Rental
RV Length
One of the first things you should keep in mind is the length of the rig you’re planning to rent. This is because luxury RVs vary widely in terms of length, and there’s a lot of options you can choose from in the market.
If it’s your first time driving or towing a luxury RV, it may feel different maneuvering on the road especially on sharp turns and narrow lanes. It is best to know the length of RV that you’re comfortable driving on your trip.
Your Vehicle’s Towing Capacity
When looking for a luxury RV rental, your vehicle’s towing capacity is also an important thing to consider. With a lot of RV classes out there, some require a special hitch and a specific size of the vehicle to appropriately tow them.
Knowing your towing capacity, you can compare and shorten the list of possible rigs that match your vehicle and that you can rent for your trip.
Amenities
Part of a luxury RV’s charm is the amenities. It wouldn’t be a luxury RV without a full set of amenities, right? From kitchen and bathroom inclusions to sleeping spaces, electronics, and appliances, a luxury RV has a lot to offer to make your vacation lavish and full of comfort.
Be sure to keep in mind the amenities you want in your rig when choosing which RV to rent!
Sleeping Arrangements
The bedroom is another important factor to consider when renting a luxury RV. You have to consider how many people you plan to travel with and the sleeping arrangements involved.
One thing to look for is if there’s a bedroom that can have multiple sleeping arrangements. For example, a bed that can be converted from king-sized to twin-sized beds or a table that can turn into a pop-up sofa bed.
Pro tip: Just because the description says it can accommodate 7 sleeps means it really can. If possible, better check the RV yourself before booking or talk to the RV owner or the rental company to confirm.
Important Questions to Ask
How many people can fit in a luxury RV?
The number of people an RV can accommodate varies depending on its type and size.
For example, a Class A motorhome (between 30-50 feet) can have up to 6 traveling seats and can fit up to 12 people on board. A mid-sized Class B (around 20-30 feet) on the other hand can accommodate around 5 to 7 people, while a smaller Class C (between 10-20 feet) can have 2-5 sleeping capacity.
What size of RV is the best?
Obviously, the best size of RV varies from person to person. If you’re traveling with your family, I suggest renting a larger type of luxury RV as the bigger the rig, the more people it can accommodate. If you’re traveling alone or with your partner only, it’s best to choose a smaller Class B or Class C or a campervan.

Final Thoughts on Renting a Luxury RV
Renting a luxury RV is no different than renting a standard one. But, it can be overwhelming and stressful if you don’t have a complete idea of which luxury brands are the best in the market and where to find the perfect luxury RV rental. You should also know what factors to consider when searching for one, and what are features and amenities you should look for to make the most out of your luxury trip outdoors.
